Struggles of Tall Nepali Girls

I’m 5’6’’ and I am pretty tall-ish girl among average girls. Even though i'm tall girl, I am the shortest one among my siblings. Here is a list of struggles that I’ve experienced in my life for being above average height.

1.Need a ladder? Nah! Just call the tallest one.

It is applied everywhere when something is up high or your friend can’t reach they will immediately call you for the assistance. When I was in school, and teachers used to forgot to rub off the board, my class monitor used to call me so I can clear the writings in the top of the board.

2.One-piece dress as long tee

When you see a cute dress in a shop and you wanna try that dress on. So when you try that dress, you'll just be disappointed that it won’t fit you as it should be. Still some dress so cute, you will buy it anyway just to put it in the cupboard and never to look, ever again.

3. Sleeves

Thank God up on the heaven if you find a tee that fits you cuz let’s face it the “free-sized” tee looks like it is meant for ten years old girl’s height and when we try it on it will be like a crop t-shirt for us. Not only that if I want a full sleeve then I’ll get quarter sleeve. It’s pretty depressing to shop what you want vs what fits you.

4.Everybody suggest you a career

Nobody will ask if you want to be a volleyball or a basketball player but, everybody will suggest you those careers if you are pretty tall. Some might suggest you to be a model, but don’t listen to them because they don’t know what you want like you do, you be what you wanna be.

5.Heels

When you are going for shoe shopping with your friends or mom and ask for a heels, they will definitely look twice at you asking ‘are you sure?’ When you want to rock a very sexy shoes you wanna be 100% confident, but you will be 10% sure because they will keep asking ‘are you sure?’ for like 20 times.

6.Doors

Old houses in Nepal has very small doors and if you don’t be careful you might smash your head as much as door there is in the house. Once I smashed my head in Hanuman Dhoka Museum, It hurts so freaking much.

7.You stand out

Remember the time when school used to take a group photo of the class at the end of the year, and every year there is the same kid in the back corner yeah, that was me…

8.Nicknames

Forget you real name when you are with your friends now its ‘Lambu’, ‘lamkhutte’, ‘khamba’ and many other things. It will totally be weird if you hear your name from your friends.

9.Tempo and Microbus

When you are in a rush and need to get somewhere ASAP in rush hours the public transportations are crowded but you get in tempo or microbus anyway and then you don’t have a seat to sit down so now you have to stand and you don’t even fit inside the vehicle. The feeling you get while you are in that situation is like: this is it, “this is how it's gonna end”.

10.Your back hurts

If you don’t sit or walk properly, you back will hurt more than shorter people. And if you don’t improve your walking style, you might get a slightly bended back. You always have to be conscious about the position of you back.
